TV series
A series has a fixed aspect ratio like a movie — except that it sometimes changes from one season to the next. Here is what each one actually covers on an ultrawide display.
The short version: television is still overwhelmingly 16:9, which leaves black bars down the sides of an ultrawide display. 2:1 has become the house standard at Netflix and Apple TV+, and a handful of shows go all the way to true scope — Andor, Severance, The Boys, Arcane. Those are the only ones that fill a 21:9 screen. Several series widen partway through: in that case the verdict covers the current format, flagged "from season X", and the season-by-season breakdown is on the show's page.
