The games made compatible by a mod

Officially unsupported, rescued by the community.

A sizable part of the ultrawide catalog wouldn't exist without the volunteer work of a handful of developers. Fixes like Lyall's, Flawless Widescreen or the patches published on Nexus Mods unlock the aspect ratio, re-center interfaces and fix the cutscenes of games the studios never adapted.

The result is often excellent, but it isn't free: you have to install the fix, update it after every game patch, and accept that it may stop working overnight. That's why a game that depends on a mod can't earn an "Excellent" rating on WideBase, no matter how good the fix is.

For every game on this list, the entry names the exact fix used and links to its official page.

35 entries in this collection, drawn from our 217 games. A mod or community patch is required; the end result still holds up.
  1. 1
    Hollow Knight: Silksong

    Hollow Knight: Silksong 2025

    Action-aventure 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Very good

At launch, Silksong offers no 32:9 support and shows thick black bars at 5120x1440. The mod that replaces Assembly-CSharp.dll removes those bars and widens the view convincingly, with something close to Hor+ rendering that gives more peripheral visibility while exploring.

  2. 2
    Elden Ring

    Elden Ring 2022

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Very good

Without intervention, the game forces vertical black bars beyond 16:9, as its camera was never designed for such a wide format. Once Flawless Widescreen is applied, the render becomes true Hor+: you can make out a far larger portion of the Lands Between at the sides, useful for spotting enemies early.

  3. 3
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain 2015

    Action-aventure 21:9 · Excellent 32:9 · Very good

On the Fox Engine, default behavior at 32:9 is disappointing: vertical black bars appear and the field of view is poorly calibrated, resulting in a cramped image that does not reflect the game's potential. The community fixes MGSVFix by Lyall and the NightBits patcher change that completely, removing the black bars and recalculating a consistent field of view, in stealth sections and cutscenes alike.

  4. 4
    Hades

    Hades 2020

    Roguelite 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Very good

Natively, Hades stays locked to 16:9, with artwork acting as pillars on either side, and switching straight to 5120x1440 produces a badly cropped image rather than genuine widening. Once the Hephaistos mod is installed, rendering becomes clean Hor+: the field of view extends to the sides of the arena without distortion, and the HUD (health bar, boons, minimap) is repositioned to stay readable on such a wide screen.

  5. 5
    Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade 2021

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Very good

The game is natively locked to 16:9. The FF7RemakeFix patch, also by Lyall, unlocks full Hor+ at 5120×1440: the environments of Midgar gain perceived width, and the fast-paced real-time combat benefits from much better awareness of enemies at the sides.

  6. 6
    Palworld

    Palworld 2024

    Bac à sable 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Very good

Out of the box, Palworld renders an abnormally tight field of view once you switch to 32:9 on 5120x1440, a fairly common flaw in Unreal Engine games poorly configured for ultrawide. The community mod Ultrawide/Super Ultrawide FOV Fix, which relies on the UE4SS framework and is toggled with the F5 key in game, corrects this excessive zoom and restores a field of view consistent with the screen's width.

  7. 7
    Final Fantasy XVI

    Final Fantasy XVI 2024

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Excellent 32:9 · Very good

Native support stops at 21:9: beyond that limit, 32:9 shows vertical black bars by default, since the game's cinematic camera was never calibrated any wider. The FFXVIFix patch, by Lyall, extends the render in Hor+ up to 5120×1440, with better peripheral vision during the Eikon battles that are the game's centerpiece.

  8. 8
    Persona 3 Reload

    Persona 3 Reload 2024

    JRPG 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Very good

Like the rest of the series on PC, the game is natively capped at 16:9. The P3RFix patch, developed by Lyall, adds clean 32:9 support: the camera applies consistent Hor+ in exploration as well as in Tartarus, and the interface (skills, combat menus) readjusts correctly to 5120×1440.

  9. 9
    Metaphor: ReFantazio

    Metaphor: ReFantazio 2024

    JRPG 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Very good

Built in Unreal Engine by Studio Zero, Metaphor: ReFantazio has no 32:9 option in its default settings: without the patch, the window stays locked to 16:9. Once MetaphorFix is installed, the camera opens up Hor+ during dungeon exploration and turn-based combat, widening the visible area at the sides without distorting characters.

  10. 10
    Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth 2024

    JRPG 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Very good

The playable portion of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth takes advantage of ultrawide resolutions natively at 32:9, with a third-person view that extends properly at the sides during exploration as well as turn-based combat. Every cutscene, however, displays pillarboxed with vertical black bars by default, at any point in the game.

  11. 11
    EA Sports WRC

    EA Sports WRC 2023

    Course 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Very good

EA Sports WRC runs on Unreal Engine, historically a temperamental engine with extreme aspect ratios: left alone, the 32:9 image stretches objects at the edges of the field of view, which throws off the perception of distances and racing lines at full speed. The Panini projection fix corrects this distortion by changing how the camera projection is calculated rather than simply widening the FOV.

  12. 12
    Tales of Arise

    Tales of Arise 2021

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Very good

Despite misleading marketing images on its Steam page that suggest native support, Tales of Arise displays vertical black bars at 16:9 by default, both during free-camera exploration and during scripted cutscenes. Once the A Simple Story community patch is applied, the image goes Hor+ up to 32:9: you see more on either side during combat and exploration, and cutscenes follow the new aspect ratio without pillarboxing.

  13. 13
    Dead Island 2

    Dead Island 2 2023

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Very good

Dead Island 2 runs Hor+ once launched at 5120x1440: the field of view genuinely widens at the sides, with no stretching or forced cropping, and exploring Los Angeles takes full advantage of the screen's width. The weak point is the UI, whose scale the engine caps by default as if it were a 21:9 display, leaving the HUD a little small and poorly centered.

  14. 14
    RoboCop: Rogue City

    RoboCop: Rogue City 2023

    FPS 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Very good

Without a fix, RoboCop: Rogue City suffers at 32:9 from a reduced field of view and vertical black bars that appear during dialogue, a flaw typical of a game designed for 16:9 and extended with partial Hor+. Once RoseTheFlower's free fix is installed, the FOV is corrected completely, including while aiming with weapons, whose on-screen display is also adjusted so nothing runs off the edges.

  15. 15
    Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden 2024

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Very good

Don't Nod officially offers only 21:9 for Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, with no 32:9 option in the menus and no widened cutscenes by default: the game's third-person camera therefore stays capped at a narrower framing until something is added. RoseTheFlower's free fix fills that gap entirely, removing the black bars and widening the field of view both during exploration and during cutscenes, which is fairly rare for this kind of community fix.

  16. 16
    Black Myth: Wukong

    Black Myth: Wukong 2024

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Good

Black Myth: Wukong officially caps at 21:9 and refuses any wider resolution without intervention, and on top of that its default field of view is cropped, narrower than what 16:9 usually offers. Once the WukongTweak community plugin is installed, the resolution cap is lifted and the FOV is corrected, letting the game's third-person camera deliver true Hor+ at 32:9 during exploration and combat.

  17. 17
    Monster Hunter Wilds

    Monster Hunter Wilds 2025

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Excellent 32:9 · Good

Without intervention, 32:9 output remains limited: Monster Hunter Wilds' native interface was not designed beyond certain narrower ratios, and cutscenes revert to 16:9 with vertical black bars by default. The third-person view during hunts therefore gets no true Hor+ until something is fixed.

  18. 18
    Vampire Survivors

    Vampire Survivors 2022

    Roguelite 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

Without a mod, Vampire Survivors shows dark bars on the sides at 32:9 instead of using the full width of a 5120x1440 screen. The Ultra-Wide Fix mod removes those bars and genuinely extends the play area visible around the character.

  19. 19
    Lethal Company

    Lethal Company 2023

    Horreur 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

Lethal Company offers no native ultrawide support and shows black bars outside of 16:9 by default. The community mods LCUltrawide and LethallyWide fix the HUD, the scanner and inventory alignment for 32:9 once installed, applied to the game's first-person camera.

  20. 20
    Satisfactory

    Satisfactory 2024

    Gestion 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

Satisfactory doesn't handle 32:9 as classic Hor+: the game crops a 16:9 image vertically, which feels like zooming in rather than genuinely widening the lateral field of view, an issue documented since 2020 and still present. The cutscenes and story sequences, visually simpler, don't appear to pose any particular problem in this respect.

  21. 21
    Persona 5 Royal

    Persona 5 Royal 2022

    JRPG 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

The PC port shows black bars by default as soon as you go beyond 16:9, since the game's heavily stylized presentation (animated menus, anchored transitions) was not designed for a wide format. Flawless Widescreen unlocks true Hor+ at 5120×1440: the dungeons and the exploration of Tokyo benefit from widened peripheral vision, and engine-rendered scenes follow the same format.

  22. 22
    Resident Evil 4 (2023)

    Resident Evil 4 (2023) 2023

    Horreur 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Good

The Resident Evil 4 remake is played third-person over the shoulder on RE Engine, but Capcom didn't build in real ultrawide optimization: the field of view stays cramped by default and the UI stretches badly at 5120×1440. The REFramework mod corrects this behavior by recalculating the FOV and repositioning the HUD for comfortable exploration.

  23. 23
    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 2025

    JRPG 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

Official 32:9 support degrades noticeably after the game's first duel: the camera, in the third-person view typical of a turn-based JRPG, starts zooming in abnormally on the character. The cause is behavior close to Vert-, where the engine crops the top and bottom of the image rather than extending the field of view horizontally as you would expect at 32:9.

  24. 24
    Monster Hunter: World

    Monster Hunter: World 2018

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Very good 32:9 · Good

Monster Hunter: World officially supports ultrawide only up to 21:9, with no native option to go further. The free Lazy Aspect Fix and HUD Fix mod unlocks any non-16:9 resolution, including 32:9, and recenters the UI (gauges, map, contextual menus) as of version 4.0.3.

  25. 25
    Terraria

    Terraria 2011

    Bac à sable 21:9 · Excellent 32:9 · Good

Terraria's engine caps render width at 4096 pixels, which makes true native 5120x1440 impossible: in practice you play at 4096x1152 stretched to fill the screen, with slight stretching visible on the sprites and the UI text. The hex patch disables the game's automatic zoom, which would otherwise crop the image, but the setup stays fragile: some lighting settings, notably 'Color' mode, cause crashes once this workaround is in place.

  26. 26
    Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

    Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice 2019

    Action-aventure 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

The game is natively locked to 16:9. Thanks to the community-patched executable and the associated UI fix, the render extends in true Hor+ across 5120×1440, giving much better awareness of enemies in your periphery, a real advantage in a game this demanding on reflexes.

  27. 27
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition 2016

    RPG 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

Skyrim Special Edition includes no native 32:9 support: launched at that resolution without intervention, the game keeps a presentation designed for 16:9, with the HUD and SkyUI menus badly placed, often shifted toward the center of the screen or cut off. Neither the first-person nor the third-person view gets true Hor+ until something is fixed.

  28. 28
    Dark Souls III

    Dark Souls III 2016

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

Natively, the game is locked to 16:9 with black bars forced beyond that, as the default camera does not handle any other format. Once Flawless Widescreen and the additional UI fix are installed, the render becomes true Hor+ at 5120×1440, with better awareness of enemies to the sides in close-quarters combat.

  29. 29
    Fallout 4

    Fallout 4 2015

    RPG 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

Fallout 4 has only ever officially targeted 16:9 and 16:10, including after the next-gen update: run as-is at 32:9, the image looks distorted or cropped rather than cleanly extended at the sides. Neither the first-person nor the third-person view gets true Hor+ without intervention.

  30. 30
    Hollow Knight

    Hollow Knight 2017

    Action-aventure 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

Hollow Knight is locked to 16:9 by default, which means thick black bars on both sides of the screen as soon as you switch to 5120x1440. The Proper Super Ultrawide mod directly edits Assembly-CSharp.dll to extend the view horizontally, Hor+ style, restoring peripheral visibility while exploring Hallownest.

  31. 31
    Grand Theft Auto IV

    Grand Theft Auto IV 2008

    Bac à sable 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

The game offers no native 32:9 option in its video menu: you have to force a custom resolution through an aspect ratio selector or by editing a configuration file, which gives decent results both driving and on foot once set up. Pre-rendered cutscenes, however, keep their original fixed aspect ratio and do not take advantage of the full width of the screen, a flaw that even the community fix cannot fully correct.

  32. 32
    XCOM 2

    XCOM 2 2016

    Stratégie 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

XCOM 2 (Unreal Engine) uses an isometric tactical view where field of view matters less than the overall framing of the UI. The options menu does not natively list 5120x1440 and even overflows the screen at 32:9, which complicates access to the settings.

  33. 33
    NieR: Automata

    NieR: Automata 2017

    Action-RPG 21:9 · Good 32:9 · Good

The game, known for a temperamental PC port at launch, stays locked to 16:9 without intervention. The FAR mod (Fix Automata Resolution) corrects the engine's resolution handling and enables true Hor+ at 5120×1440, with a camera that adjusts correctly across the game's various views (top-down shoot 'em up sections, third-person view, 2D platforming).

  34. 34
    Stellaris

    Stellaris 2016

    Stratégie 21:9 · Excellent 32:9 · Good

Stellaris is a 4X with a fixed overhead camera, no first-person view or cockpit: Hor+ rendering mainly translates into a wider galaxy map and more visible space around the cursor. The real problem is functional rather than graphical, since the entire interface (top bar, side panels, event windows) remains sized for 16:9 and centered on screen, far from the edges, forcing long mouse travel on a display this wide.

  35. 35
    RimWorld

    RimWorld 2018

    Gestion 21:9 · Excellent 32:9 · Good

RimWorld shows its colony view in 2D with a fixed camera and properly fills the screen at 5120x1440, with no black bars and no distortion of the gameplay itself. The problem lies with the native UI, whose elements (resources, alerts, build menus) are pinned right at the edge of the screen, making them uncomfortable to read on such a wide format.

How this list is built

It keeps the games whose "mod required" field reads "Yes" and whose end result isn't rated "Avoid". The individual statuses (format support, cutscenes, mod required) are explained on the Method page. Each entry links to its full French page, which carries its sources — English versions are on the way.
